About

I am a fourth-year Ph.D. student at Toyota Technological Institute at Chicago, advised by Professor Zhiyuan Li. My research interests lie broadly in optimization and language model training.

My work focuses on the theory of deep learning optimization, particularly understanding why adaptive methods such as Adam are effective for training large language models. I also have extensive hands-on experience training language models and building and debugging empirical ML pipelines.

Previously, I received a B.S. in statistics from Peking University and an M.S. in statistics from the University of Chicago, and did research in natural language processing with Hongyuan Mei and Hao Tan.

I am on the job market for full-time industry positions starting in 2027. I am also open to summer 2027 internships. Feel free to reach out by email.

Miscellaneous

Outside of research, I enjoy cooking, learning Japanese on Duolingo, playing squash and bouldering. During my undergraduate years, I was a member of the Peking University Softball Team and captain of the softball team of the School of Mathematical Sciences.
